One of the most anticipated performance machines of
the year and Ford’s most powerful street-legal car ever, the 2020 Mustang
Shelby GT500, is capable of some neck-snapping performance. The automaker
claims that it can sprint from 0-161 km/h and then back to 0
again in a mind-blowing 10.6 seconds.
The icing on the cake is the 5.2-liter,
supercharged V8, making 760 hp and 847 Nm of torque. The 7-speed,
dual-clutch automatic transmission built by Tremec, can change up a gear in
only 80 milliseconds, quicker than a blink of an eye.
Furthermore, the hardcore pony car features the
largest front brakes of any domestic sports coupe, with 16.5-inch rotors
(419mm). Finally, there are optional carbon fiber wheels shod in Ford
Performance-spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The five drive modes include
‘Track’ and ‘Drag’, and the driver can select them from a switch mounted on the
console, improving throttle response and tuning the transmission for faster
gear changes.
The Dearborn-based car maker previously announced
that the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 needs 3.5 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h and can run the quarter mile in under 11 seconds. All of this for a
reported starting price of just US$ 5 shy of the US$ 74,000 mark in the U.S., with
the destination charge and gas-guzzler tax included.
