GMC is entering the
2020 model year with a host of new, redesigned and updated models. Starting
with the Terrain, all trims now come equipped with the GMC Pro Safety package.
It includes IntelliBeam headlights as well as driver assistance systems such as
automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert,
following distance indicator and lane keep assistance with lane departure
warning.
The Terrain Denali
has also been updated as it receives a revised suspension with new internal
valves that promise to deliver a “more refined ride.” The model also gains a
new Premium Package which combines the Advanced Safety Package with the Comfort
Package. It adds features such as adaptive cruise control, heated / ventilated
front seats and heated rear seats.
While GMC didn’t
mention it, the 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine has been dropped due to low
demand. The four-cylinder produced 137
hp and 325 Nm)of torque. Lastly, the Terrain
Black Edition has been renamed the Terrain Elevation Edition. It features dark
exterior accents and 19-inch wheels with a “glass black” finish.
2020 Acadia
Sticking with
crossovers, the Acadia has been extensively updated for 2020. The facelifted
model features a more rugged appearance thanks to modified fascias and a
revised grille that draws inspiration from the Sierra. The crossover also has
new headlights, an updated infotainment system and a new nine-speed automatic
transmission. Under the hood, there’s a newly available turbocharged 2.0-liter
four-cylinder engine that produces 230 hp and 350
Nm of torque. It slots in between the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter
four-cylinder and the more powerful 3.6-liter V6.
2020 Canyon
The on the truck
side, the 2020 Canyon largely carries over. However, the model features a
revised color palette that now includes Carbon Black Metallic. Elsewhere,
there’s a newly available remote locking tailgate and a newly standard Tire
Fill Alert system which provides an audible and visual warning when a tire
needs air. The Canyon All Terrain can also be equipped with new features such
as forward collision alert and lane departure warning.
2020 Sierra
The Sierra was
redesigned for 2019, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any changes this year.
The big news is the availability of a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine that
produces 277 hp and 624 Nm of torque. It is
connected exclusively to a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Other updates
include adaptive cruise control and expanded availability of the carbon fiber
bed. A ten-speed automatic transmission is also offered on additional models
and the truck can be equipped with a ProGrade Trailering system which features
a transparent trailer view mode.
2020 Sierra HD
The Sierra Heavy Duty has been redesigned for 2020. Introduced earlier this
year, the truck has a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine that produces 445 hp and 1,233 Nm of torque. It is connected to a
ten-speed Allison automatic transmission which can send power to an optional
four-wheel drive system.
Of course, heavy
duty trucks are all about towing and this is where the Sierra HD excels.
Depending on the model and configuration, the truck can tow up to 16,102 kg.
GMC didn’t mention
any updates to the Yukon or Yukon XL, but redesigned versions will be
introduced shortly.
