Spy photographers have snapped the facelifted BMW
5-Series on multiple occasions and now we’re getting our first glimpse of the
updated M5. Given this is an early prototype, the changes aren’t very dramatic.
However, the model has a heavily camouflaged front fascia which likely hides a
larger grille and modified air intakes.
There doesn’t appear to be any other updates, but
previous 5-Series prototypes have been spotted with restyled headlights which
appear a bit slimmer than those used on the current model. Those prototypes
also had a camouflaged rear end which suggests the car could be equipped with a
new rear bumper and modified taillights. The styling changes will likely
continue in the cabin and we wouldn’t be surprised if the M5 was outfitted with
a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25- or 12.3-inch infotainment
system. The car could also have revised switchgear and a new center stack, but
nothing is official as of yet.
Under the hood, we can expect a 4.4-liter M TwinPower
Turbo V8 engine. It currently produces 592 hp and 750 Nm of torque. It remains unclear if the facelifted model will receive a
power boost, but the engine enable the all-wheel drive sedan to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of up to 305 km/h when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package.
There should also be a new M5 Competition. It
features an upgraded engine that produces 617 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The extra power drops the 0-100 km/h time to 3.3
seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged at 305 km/h.
