A prototype of the upcoming 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali
has been spied while testing by our spy photographers. Admittedly, the prototype in
question is bathed in camouflage and, thus, it is difficult to discern all the
areas that have been altered from the outgoing model.
That being said, it does appear as though this test
car is equipped with the front grille that will adorn the finished item and
looks somewhat similar in design to the current Sierra Denali. A number of
other design changes, which inevitably are present, aren’t visible through the
camo.
Sitting beneath the skin of the new Yukon XL Denali,
as well as lesser versions, will be the GM T1 platform utilized by pickup
trucks and body-on-frame SUVs. This architecture is currently used by the 2019
Chevrolet Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra and replaces the old K2. It will
eventually underpin other GM products as well, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and
Suburban as well as the next-generation Cadillac Escalade.
It remains to be seen what engines GM will offer
with the updated Yukon range, but the T1 platform offers support for a series
of 4.3, 5.3 and 6.2-liter petrol engines with six and eight cylinders.
Additionally, it supports various Duramax turbo diesels.
Finally, the new underpinnings will also allow GM’s
designers to create a brand new interior, which should be more modern and
feature the latest tech, such as a new infotainment and various luxury and
safety systems.
