The new Land Rover Defender is just around the corner but the British car manufacturer, much like the rest of us, still has a soft spot for the original. Consequently, Land Rover Classic has just announced a series of upgrade packages for the iconic off-roader.

Land Rover is offering upgrade kit for all Defender 90 and 110 models built between 1994 and 2016. The packages take inspiration from the limited-edition Defender Works V8 – 70th Edition and promise to make classic Defenders even more capable.

The upgrades start with 18-inch diamond-turned Sawtooth alloy wheels to add a distinctive look to the vehicle. In addition, a Defender Suspension Upgrade Kit has been developed for 2020 model year examples. Included in this kit are revised coil spring rates, dampers, anti-roll bars, links, and bushes. A Defender Handling Upgrade Kit has also been developed to include uprated Works V8 specification brake discs, pads, and calipers.

The most comprehensive package is dubbed the Defender Classic Works Upgrade Kit. It includes the aforementioned wheel, brake, and suspension upgrades and also includes performance tires and an engine tuning kit which increases power from the 2.2-liter TDCi engine of 2012 model year vehicles onwards by 39 hp up to a total of 159 hp and 463 Nm of torque. Other modifications found as part of this kit are bespoke badges, an owner’s certificate, vehicle collection, health check, and a special handover at either Land Rover Classic’s facility in the UK or in Essen, Germany.

Full pricing details have yet to be announced but we know the 18-inch wheels can be purchased for £ 432 (US$ 525).
