The Maruti S-Presso has been spied on test yet
again. The new A-segment model will be Maruti Suzuki's firecracker this festive
season and go against the Renault Kwid. The Maruti S-Presso is apparently
the production version of the Maruti Future-S Concept that debuted at Auto Expo
2018.
It is expected to arrive as a direct replacement for the Alto range. It
will sport an SUV-inspired design like the Renault Kwid which has gathered much
appreciation for its looks. The S-Presso will be Maruti Suzuki's first new
budget offering after almost a period of seven years. It will be sold through
the Arena outlets.
The Maruti S-Presso will come with a flattish bonnet
and a higher ground clearance in comparison to the Alto. It has been engineered
and design by Maruti Suzuki's R&D unit with assistance from Suzuki, and has
been developed specifically as per the Indian market's needs. It is the second
product after Vitara Brezza to be developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki's R&D
team.
The new entry-level crossover is most likely to be
underpinned by a flexible and lightweight Heartect platform and make use of the
BS-VI version of the K10B 1.0-litre engine which is rated to churn out 68 PS at
6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm in its current, BS-IV avatar.
5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual would be the transmission choices.
Maruti Suzuki may also introduce a CNG-powered
version of the S-Presso at a later stage. Before this model, it will launch the
Ertiga-based XL6, on 21 August. The new MPV will retail through the NEXA
premium outlets.
