Mini has celebrated the manufacturing of its 10
millionth vehicle since the company was born 60 years ago. The brand marked the special
moment at the Oxford plant in the UK where production of the classic began in
1959. Fittingly, the milestone vehicle was a Mini Cooper S 60 Years Edition
which joined the brand’s first classic Mini and 60 other representative
vehicles for the brand for a family photo.
Each of the 60 vehicles was from one of the
production years. Following the photo op, all cars embarked on a road trip to
Bristol to the International Mini Meeting that took place on Sunday, August 11. Around 5.3 million units of the
classic Mini were sold globally up until the year 2000, with the remaining 4.7
million vehicles being made during the BMW era. In 2018 alone, Mini sold almost
400,000 vehicles in 110 countries.
Currently, the Mini 3-door, 5-door, and Clubman are
made at the Oxford plant where up to 1,000 vehicles are manufactured every day.
The Mini Convertible and Countryman are built at production partner VDL NedCar
in the Netherlands.
From November 2019, Mini will start a new chapter of
its existence with the production launch at the Oxford plant of the Mini Cooper
SE, the brand’s first mass-produced all-electric vehicle.
