As part of PSA’s ‘Push To Pass’ plan, the C4 will
make a comeback, but it will be much more than just another run-of-the-mill
compact hatch. A Citroen spokesperson told Carscoops that it will gain a
battery-electric powertrain, which will allow it to go head to head with other
EVs in the class, including the Nissan Leaf and the upcoming Volkswagen ID.3.
It will be built around the French group’s CMP modular platform that forms the
base for the latest Peugeot 208 and Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, instead of the 308’s
EMP2 architecture.
Nonetheless, our source said it won’t shed the
traditional internal combustion engines just yet. As a matter of fact, it will
continued to be offered with petrol and diesel power units, which will allow it
to rival to the likes of the standard versions of the Volkswagen Golf, Ford
Focus, Renault Megane, Hyundai i30 and others.
Furthermore, the spokesperson referred to the C4
replacement as “the next Citroen C-segment hatch”, which might be an indirect
way of saying that it will be renamed. We also asked about the
possibility of the electric model gaining a differentiated design compared to
the ICE-powered versions, aside from the usual enclosed grille, special badging
