Skoda’s new compact hatchback, the Scala, has joined
the blue-light fleet lineup in the United Kingdom, which already includes
vehicles converted to serve different purposes. The police uniform, with the
typical blue and yellow livery on white, isn’t the only update of the special
purpose Scala, which also features LED signal lights built into the grille,
tailgate, number plate and front screen, joined by the roof-mounted emergency
lights and 100-amp, three-tone siren.
The 467-liter boot can carry the
necessary equipment and, if required, users can fold down the rear seats to
extend the cargo capacity to 1,410 liters. Additionally, the car is
fitted with a range of driver assistance systems such as the front assist with
automatic braking, lane assist, blind spot detect and adaptive cruise control.
In terms of power, it can be had with one diesel and
two petrol engines, with outputs ranging between 115 PS and
150 PS. A new entry-level model will launch later this year
with a 95 PS, 1.0-liter petrol unit, with a manual gearbox. Aside from the police conversion,
Skoda said the Scala can be modified to serve the ambulance and fire and rescue
departments.
