Following its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show
earlier this year, the VW T-Roc R high-performance SUV is now available to buy
in Europe. The first VW SUV to feature the R treatment, the T-Roc R starts from
€ 43,995 (US$ 48,730), which is a lot of money for a non-premium
subcompact SUV.
For starters, the powertrain comes from the Golf R
which means there’s a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine under the
hood, rated at 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque. The turbo-four
is linked to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and 4Motion all-wheel
drive — both offered as standard.
The generous power and torque levels combined with
the added traction of the AWD system result in a 0 to 100 km/h sprint
of 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Interestingly, the acceleration sees a 0.1-second improvement compared to the
original figure announced at the Geneva Motor Show.
The T-Roc R should be quick through turns as well,
since it features a sports suspension and 17-inch brake system. Other standard
features include progressive steering, launch control, race mode, quad
exhausts, 18-inch Spielberg alloy wheels, and more.
As for optional extras, they include an R
Performance exhaust system with titanium silencers (€ 3,800), 19-inch Pretoria
Dark Graphite matte alloy wheels (€ 820), Dynamic Chassis Control DCC, “Beats”
sound system, and Lapiz Blue matte decorative trims.
