Volkswagen recently announced a significant
investment in their Brazilian operations and now we’re learning what will be
produced in the country. In a press release, Volkswagen of Brazil confirmed they’ll build a
new model called the “Urban Coupe.” It’s a crossover that was “100% developed”
in Brazil and the teaser sketches suggest it will have a rakish windscreen, a
sporty roofline and massive wheels. We can also see sweptback headlights, a
tailgate-mounted spoiler and muscular side skirts.
Little else is known about the crossover, but
Volkswagen’s President and CEO of Latin America said the Urban Coupe will
combine sportiness with a high driving position. He went on to say the model
will be the “democratization of a style offered today only in premium segment.”
In essence, the Urban Coupe will be one of the first crossover coupes aimed at
the masses.
Besides the sporty styling, the crossover will be
equipped with a new infotainment that was also developed in Brazil. The company
says it will be intuitive and offer a high level of connectivity and
personalization.
Besides being produced in Brazil, the Urban Coupe
will be built in Europe as well. The company didn’t go into specifics about
which markets the model will be sold in, but noted the crossover has “great
export potential.” While Volkswagen is staying tight-lipped, Motor1 suggested the model
could be called the T-Sport and might be launched next year.
