Once sales start for the 2020 Alpina XB7, which we
anticipate will happen sometime early next year, it should automatically become
the fastest and most powerful version of BMW’s flagship SUV. Currently, the best you can do as
far as the X7 is concerned is opt for the M50i xDrive version, whose 4.4-liter
twin turbo V8 engine produces 523 HP and 750 Nm of torque.
That’s good enough for a 0-96 km/h acceleration time of just 4.5
seconds.
The Alpina XB7 on the other hand could very well put
down 600 HP and 800 Nm, if the 2020 Alpina B7 limousine is
anything to go by – which by the way also features a 4.4-liter
twin-turbocharged V8. Alas, nothing has been made official yet about the XB7’s
performance.
All we know is what we can see, which in this case
is a mostly camouflaged exterior. Still, we can make out the custom Alpina
lettering at the front, which is hidden, sure, but it doesn’t take a
cryptographer to figure out what it says.
The massive brakes are also evident, and unlike
previous prototypes, this one is equipped with blue calipers so as to mirror
the exterior. Most importantly though, this prototype is clearly wearing its
production rear bumper, which features a quad exhaust setup instead of just one
rectangular pipe per corner.
As for its interior, we can expect the XB7 to
feature a hand-crafted sports steering wheel,
custom door sills and plaque, Alpina’s own selection of leather
upholstery options, along with badges and contrast stitching throughout. Meanwhile, standard features
should include the very best available technologies on the X7 in general, as
per the tuner’s philosophy.
