Audi has put the updated A5 range on display at the
Frankfurt Motor Show including in S5 guise and A5 Convertible form.
2020 Audi S5 models sold throughout Europe are
available exclusively with a 3.0-liter TDI six-cylinder engine also found
within the latest S4, S6, and S7 models. This powertrain pumps out 342 hp and 700 Nm of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic
transmission and all-wheel drive. The car can hit 100 km/h in under
five seconds and continues through to a limited top speed of 250
km/h.
Interestingly, while all European S5 models are sold
with a diesel, those sold in markets outside the Old Continent get a 3.0-liter
TFSI V6 turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 348 hp and 500
Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds despite the
substantial torque deficit over the diesel model.
As for the Audi A5 Convertible model you see perched
on an angle in the gallery below, it is the 40 TDI quattro derivative. That
means it is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder with 190
hp at 3800 rpm and 400 Nm of torque. It is front-wheel drive and
completes the 0-100 km/h)sprint in a claimed 7.7 seconds, while having
a 241 km/h top speed. Other powertrain options for the updated A5
range include an entry-level 35 TDI 2.0-liter turbo-diesel with 161 hp and a
petrol 40 TFSI model that has 187 hp.
Order books for the facelifted Audi A5 range,
including the S5, open this fall with the first deliveries penciled in for
early 2020.
