You can throw a rock anywhere in the air at this
year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and hit something that’s either a crossover, a
hatchback, a saloon or a supercar. Wagons, on the other hand, are a little
tough to come by.
In fact, along with Alpina’s B3 Touring, this bright
red all-new Audi RS6 Avant is the only other novelty in terms of
high-performance wagons present at the event. It’s too bad the facelifted 2020
RS4 Avant couldn’t join it, but let’s not digress.
It’s also refreshing to see the all-new RS6 wearing
something else other than a dark grey body color – as was the case with all
official press images following its unveiling a couple of weeks ago. Still,
regardless of color, this is arguably the most aggressive-looking wagon the
world has ever seen, thanks to its overly angular aesthetics.
Compared to its predecessor, the 2020 RS6 is wider,
more technologically advanced and a little more potent in a straight line.
Doing the pushing is a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine, good for a solid 595 HP and 800 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all wheels via an
8-speed automatic transmission, enabling you to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
The interior of the RS6 is largely carried over from
the regular model, meaning you get the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster,
the 10.1-inch infotainment display and the 8.6-inch center console display.
What you also get though are the RS-specific bits of
trim like the RS-branded sport seats, flat bottom steering wheel, carbon fiber
trim, aluminum pedals and performance-oriented display markings that provide
information on tire pressure, power and torque outputs, oil temp, boost
pressure and such.
Walking over to this RS6 Avant at the Audi stand
will also lead you to spot a Ducati Panigale V4 R, the most powerful and
high-performance production Ducati of all time.
It’s basically a road-legal WSBK racing motorcycle,
weighing 193 kg and packing 220 PS. If you opt for the full
racing exhaust, the output goes up to 234 PS, at 15,500 rpm.
