The Infiniti Q50 is getting a little long-in-tooth,
but the automaker is freshening things up for the 2020 model year. The big news is the death of the
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produced 208 hp and 349 Nm of torque. The engine won’t necessarily be missed,
but pricing has crept up due to its elimination.
To help counter this, Infiniti is introducing a new
entry-level model called the Q50 3.0t Pure. Pricing starts at US$ 36,400 which
means it costs US$ 750 more than last year’s base model which was the Q50 2.0t
Pure.
While we always hate to see prices climb, the
increase isn’t a bad thing as the Q50 3.0t Pure comes equipped with a
twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Q50 3.0t Pure is more affordable
than last year’s base model with the twin-turbo V6 as the 2019 Q50 3.0t Luxe
started at US$ 38,400.
Of course, the Q50 3.0t Pure is sparsely equipped.
That being said, the car features LED headlights, a dual exhaust system and
17-inch alloy wheels. Other highlights include eight-way power front seats,
leatherette upholstery, lunar black trim and a dual-zone automatic climate
control system.
Unfortunately, Infiniti won’t offer packages on the
base model and customers can’t even get premium paint. The latter decision
means customers have just four options including Black Obsidian, Graphite
Shadow, Liquid Platinum and Pure White. On the bright side, the Q50 3.0t Pure
can be equipped with an optional all-wheel drive system.
Besides the new base model, all Q50s gain a new
Infiniti InTouch infotainment system which features an upper 8-inch display and
a lower 7-inch display. The system boasts Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
compatibility as well as support for Siri and Google Voice. Additional updates are limited,
drivers will find two new USB ports. Both are illuminated and one is USB
Type-A, while the other is USB Type-C.
