Nissan has unveiled
the 2020 Titan at the State Fair of Texas. Looking instantly recognizable,
the facelifted model adopts a “Powerful Warrior” design which emphasizes the
truck’s “solid-beam construction and commanding presence.”
Starting up front, there’s a new grille which is
available in three different designs. It is flanked by new LED headlights that
feature “double boomerang” LED daytime running lights. Further below, there’s a
redesigned bumper with sharper lines and angular accents. It also incorporates
new rectangular fog lights.
The styling changes are less extensive out back, but
the truck has been equipped with new taillights and revised tailgate finishers.
Other changes include new LED bed lights, restyled wheels and a revised color
palette that now includes Red Alert, Baja Storm and Cardinal Red Metallic.
Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a new
instrument cluster that now features a 7-inch driver information display. The model also comes equipped with an 8-inch
infotainment system, but a 9-inch “Integrated Command Center” is a new
option. The latter features Android Auto
and Apple CarPlay compatibility as well as an integrated WiFi router which supports
up to six devices.
Other updates include additional assist grips and a
new “flexible smartphone holder/charging system.” The Titan Crew Cab can also be equipped with
a newly optional dual panel panoramic moonroof which is one of the largest in the
segment.
Furthermore, the 2020 Titan comes standard with the
Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of driver assistance systems. These include
Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear
Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic
Braking. The model can also be equipped with a number of other features
including Intelligent Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition and an
Intelligent Around View Monitor.
Under the hood, there’s an upgraded 5.6-liter V8
engine that now produces 400 hp and 559 Nm of
torque. This is an improvement of 10 hp and 26 Nm. The engine is connected to a new
nine-speed automatic transmission which replaces the previous seven-speed unit.
Nissan says it will provide “smoother and faster acceleration.”
The petrol engine is the only option for 2020 as the
5.0-liter Cummins V8 turbodiesel has been dropped to “help better position
Nissan in the long term.” It’s sad to see it go, but the engine reportedly wasn’t
very popular with consumers. The 2020 Titan will go on sale early next year and
pricing will be announced closer to launch.
