The new Superb that’s currently making its official
debut at Frankfurt Frankfurt Motor Show in both sedan and Estate form may not
look all that different to its predecessor, but is in fact the facelifted model
first revealed online in May.
Compared to the pre-facelift Superb, the new car
receives a revised front bumper that adds 8 mm to the length of
the sedan and 6 mm to the Estate.
Also present into the revamped family car is the car
manufacturer’s latest headlight technology that prevents other road users from
being dazzled. The system works thanks to a windshield-mounted camera that
detects oncoming traffic and shuts off individual segments within the light
beam.
Styling changes include a new grille at the front
and a piece of horizontal chrome trim stretching between the taillights at the
rear, as well as new 18- and 19-inch alloys.
There are no less than 10 different
engine/transmission combinations to choose from in the facelifted Superb. The
base unit is a 1.6-liter TDI delivering 118 HP, while next up is a 2.0-liter
TDI with either 147 or 187 HP. On the petrol front, there is a 1.5-liter TSI
with 147 HP, a 2.0-liter TSI delivering 187 HP, and a range-topping 2.0-liter
TSI with 268 HP, all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG transmission as standard.
And if the count doesn’t seem right, bear in mind that, apart from the top
version, the rest can be paired either to a manual or an auto ‘box, depending
on the unit.
