Aston Martin has announced a new Vantage Cup
one-make championship that’s set to kick off next year. R-Motorsport is heading
up the series and already holds the Aston Martin license in DTM and Blancpain
GT Series. The Vantage Cup will initially launch in Europe in 2020 and expand
into Asia the following year.
Approximately 25 vehicles are expected to fill the
racing grid, priced at roughly € 250,000 (US$ 277,112) each. No details about the
new racer have been made public, other than it is an upgraded version of the
V8-powered Vantage road car.
On his part, Aston Martin chief executive Andy
Palmer commented: “We are delighted that our brand will continue to be so well
represented in international racing by R-Motorsport. The Aston Martin Vantage
Cup by R-Motorsport offers interested customers the ideal opportunity with
which to further their motor racing ambitions.”
It is understood that R-Motorsport is in discussions
with DTM, where it’s already competing with the Vantage (although that’s a
different beast altogether due to the regulations) to have the new championship
run as a support series.
