The best part about driving something like an
8-Series Gran Coupe is that it offers you the best of two worlds. It is sporty
and elegant like a two-door GT, but can easily accommodate two adult passengers
in the rear in relative comfort, while also offering them easy access inside.
Right now, the flagship version of the range is the
M850i xDrive, seen here at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show sporting a light grey
exterior and 20-inch M Light Alloy multi-spoke bi-color wheels with blue
calipers.
The 8-Series Gran Coupe was unveiled this past June,
featuring a taller roof than the regular Coupe model, but also two extra doors,
a larger overall exterior and a wheelbase that’s been stretched by 200.7 mm.
In terms of interior space, there an extra 86.4 mm of rear seat headroom, to go with 180.3 mm of additional
legroom. The dashboard meanwhile is the same as the one in the two-door model,
meaning you get the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, alongside the
10.25-inch infotainment display.
Ambient lighting, heated front seats, head-up
display, wireless smartphone charging and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio
system are among the car’s standard features, although if you’re willing to pay
extra, you could go for something like the Driving Assistance Professional
package which adds Active Cruise Control, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane
Departure Warning, Surround View Camera, Parking Assistant, Rear Cross Traffic
Alert and Speed Limit Information.
Speaking of paying extra, in order to buy an M850i
xDrive Gran Coupe you first need to pay the automaker’s asking price of US$ 108,900, which will quickly sky-rocket as soon as you start adding options. Still, you do ultimately get to
enjoy a 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine with 523 HP and 750 Nm)of torque. It is capable of propelling the German 4-door coupe
from zero to 96 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
