Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2020 Corvette
Stingray Convertible will premiere on October 2. Last week, the car manufacturer
revealed that the droptop would be introduced sometime in October, but didn’t
specify an exact date. This brief teaser video published on the official
Corvette Facebook page confirms the car’s unveiling date while showing the car
from its side.
It’s not unusual for car manufacturers to release
the convertible versions of their sports cars and supercars more than 12 months
after the hardtop model arrives, but Chevrolet is clearly wasting no time in
bringing the new Corvette Convertible to the world. This isn’t particularly
surprising, considering the car manufacturer previewed the completed design of
the car at the unveiling for the coupe back in July.
All signs point towards the Corvette Stingray
Convertible receiving a folding hardtop with images of the car also showing it
will receive a set of large buttresses behind the seats. Sadly, the car won’t
have a clear engine cover like the Coupe – and you can blame that on the design
changes necessitated by the folding top.
We’re also particularly curious to see how Chevrolet
has found the room to stow both the roof and its mechanism considering the
engine is positioned directly behind the passenger cell to allow room for a
storage compartment at the rear. Fortunately, we only have a few weeks to find
out.
Powering the Corvette Stingray Convertible will be
the same 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 as the Coupe, with 490 HP in base
trim and 495 with the available Z51 Performance Package and exhaust, while a
recent document frevealed that the open-top will only weigh 46 kg more.
