Honda had us all excited when it unveiled the Honda
CBR250RR in 2017, reviving the quarter-litre segment. However, the bike was
limited only to the ASEAN region and Japan. Looks like that is going to change.
A report from MotoSaigon reveals that the Japanese manufacturer is gearing up
to introduce the Honda CBR300RR for other markets by end-2019.
The report adds that the upcoming Honda CBR300RR
will be unveiled by the end of the current calendar year (2019). Pricing
details for the Honda CBR300RR based on the Honda CBR250RR will be revealed
later in 2020. However, do not expect this new product to head to the Indian
market anytime soon.
Honda first teased the Honda CBR250RR as the Light
Weight Super Sports Concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The Honda CBR250RR
later went on to win the AP250 class of Asia Road Racing Championship for two
consecutive seasons (2017 and 2018).
The Honda CBR300RR’s engine will be based on the
249.7 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor. In its present tune, the engine
can produce 38.7 PS of power and 23.3 Nm of torque. Other standard features of
the Honda CBR300RR will include throttle by wire with an accelerator position
sensor. Just like the quarter-litre Honda CBR250RR, throttle-by-wire will allow
the bike to feature riding modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport+).
The Honda CBR300RR's suspension tasks will be
handled by Showa upside-down fork up front and a monoshock with adjustable
preload at the rear. We would love to see certain levels of adjustability in
the front suspension setup as well. The Honda CBR250RR is expected to gain a
smart key, a quick-shifter and a slipper clutch. We expect these to trickle
down to the Honda CBR300RR as well.
