There’s little doubt that cars of the future will be
powered by electricity and drive themselves. Sure, it looks as they will arrive
a bit later than some had anticipated, but they are definitely coming, with
practically all manufacturers investing heavily on these new technologies. This concept from designer Dahye
Jeong shows what this type of car from Honda could look like.
Dubbed the Skyroom, the tiny Honda concept is all
about versatility and comfort. It would feature an electric powertrain,
allowing for the front and rear axles to be pushed to the extremities of the
car and thus create a spacious interior despite the car’s compact dimensions.
The interiors of modern cars are all rectangular in
shape because, by in large, cars are rectangular. However, the Honda Skyroom’s
cabin is actually circular and features a totally flat roof. This has allowed
the designer to create a unique cabin dominated by a circular sofa/bed that can
be shuffled around and used for a variety of things – like laying back and
relaxing or even taking a nap.
No dimensions of the vehicle are available, but its
footprint probably isn’t that much bigger than a Smart ForTwo. So, the cabin
isn’t huge but does feel more spacious than it appears thanks to the wraparound
windshield and panoramic glass roof. The roof could also be opened to
essentially turn the vehicle into a convertible.
