Hyundai Motorsport is gearing up to introduce their
first electric race car at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and now the company has a
new teaser video for upcoming model. Staring World Touring Car Cup
champion Gabriele Tarquini, the Frankenstein-inspired clip was shot at the
company’s Customer Racing workshop and shows the mysterious model underneath a
sheet. However, it’s lifted towards the end of the video as Tarquini shouts
it’s alive.
The video only gives us a few glimpses of the car,
but we can see it has a front splitter, lightweight wheels and a large rear
wing. The model has also has a multicolored livery with Hyundai Motorsport and
N badging.
Little else is known about the model, but it was
designed and developed by Hyundai Motorsport and built at their headquarters in
Alzenau, Germany. It will be unveiled on September 10th and Hyundai Motorsport
said the electric race car “underscores” their ambition and credentials as well
as their “passion for cutting edge technology.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Hyundai Motorsport
team director Andrea Adamo who said “After a positive reaction to our new
electric project, we are excited to unveil the car at IAA. It will mark the
continuation of our motorsport journey, starting a brand-new chapter, as we
embrace new ventures.”
The electric race car isn’t the only thing Hyundai
is bringing to Frankfurt as the company will also introduce the 2020 i10 and
i30 N Project C. Hyundai will also unveil a retro-inspired 45 concept which
features an electric powertrain.
