Apparently, Jeep is getting a successor of the
legendary Grand Wagoneer SUV ready for premiere. A GW-themed test
mule based on the RAM 1500 chassis has recently been spotted in the Death
Valley, California.
The Wagoneer will assume the topmost position in the
model lineup and compete with the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and
Lincoln Navigator. In its most expensive trim versions, it will take on the BMW
X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. The car will arrive based on the improved RAM
1500 chassis and sport three rows of seats, as well as air suspension at the
rear end.
It is being reported that the series will be powered
by mild-hybrid powertrains based on six- and eight-cylinder engines assisted by
48V motors. A couple turbocharged I6s may also be available, although this is
by no means official yet.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will launch in the spring of
2020.
