The next-gen
Hyundai Elantra is already under development internationally. The vehicle was
recently spied in a fully disguised form for the very first time, courtesy
clien.net.
The 2020 Hyundai
Elantra seen here features new LED headlamps, new machine-cut alloy wheels and
slightly less sloping roofline suggesting more headroom at the rear. The bonnet
appears to be lower and wider in a style inspired by the latest Hyundai Sonata.
The codename Hyundai CN7c confirms that this test mule is of the Chinese-spec
version. The "c" after "CN7" stands for China.
The new sighting
also reveals that Hyundai will offer the next-gen Elantra with a
newly-developed 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine known internally as the
G4LIII unit. At least China will get the all-new model with this engine. Other
options should include 1.4- and 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol units and a
2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit.
Instead of a diesel engine, the company may
offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain this time globally. A plug-in hybrid variant
is available in the current generation model also, but it's exclusive to China.
Some of the conventional engines may feature mild-hybrid tech for enhanced fuel
efficiency.
