Here is the San Yuan. Never heard of it? Don’t fret,
neither have we. The company that made it is based in Taipei, Taiwan, having
being founded in 1984 in an alliance with Yamaha. 11 years ago, it received a US$ 30 million investment into the Taoyuan facility.
That’s all we know for now, but we will be updating
this story once we get a hold of a representative from San Yuan Design, which
is the brand’s official name.
Now, the San Yuan Concept is an odd mix between a
crossover and a two-door coupe. At a first glance, the styling seems to be
original – don’t confuse ‘original’ with ‘nice’, though. But those who see it
even ‘less appealing’ could say that it has some minor styling influences from
the old Nissan Juke, Toyota CH-R and Mercedes-Benz, at the front, rear and
inside, respectively.
Having a dual-screen setup in the cabin, for the
digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, would have normally been
the major eye catcher. However, in an attempt to shock, they went for a weird
mix of red, white, gold and chrome, mixed together with blue ambient lighting
and sprinkled with wood and carbon fiber-like trim. It takes a while to spot
other main features, like the third screen used to control the HVAC or
four-seat layout.
We don’t know what powers it, but the rev meter’s
red line starts at 6,000 rpm, so that suggests it has a conventional gasoline
engine, matched to an automatic transmission.
