It’s time to see the upcoming 2020 Vantage Roadster in action as the prototype recently tackled the Nürburgring
Nordschleife as part of its development program. The new model definitely looks
in its element at the “Green Hell” and, as you can see, the driver raised the
soft top in order to get the most out of the laps.
We don’t have footage of the test run but we’re
pretty sure it was accompanied by a thundering V8 sound. While Aston Martin has
not released technical specs yet, everyone knows that the 2020 Vantage Roadster
will get the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the Coupe version. Expect base
models to come with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and a rear
electronic differential.
On the fixed-roof Vantage, the Mercedes-AMG engine
delivers 503 HP and 685 Nm of torque in base
specification. That’s enough for a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 3.7
seconds. Given the added weight brought about by the folding roof mechanism and
chassis strengthening measures, the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster could be a
hint slower than the Coupe.
That won’t matter in the real world, however, as the
drop-top Vantage will more than compensate for it with open-air driving thrills
and unhindered access to the V8’s soundtrack. As for the looks, we’ll let you
decide whether the Roadster will turn more heads than the Coupe or not. One
thing is certain, though: it doesn’t look half bad with the top up.
