The 2020 Audi e-tron Sportback
has been spotted by Carscoops photographers virtually undisguised, wearing only tiny patches
of black tape on the headlights and the third lateral windows. Scheduled to
debut on November 19 at the LA Auto Show, the e-tron Sportback is the
coupe-styled version of the e-tron SUV and that’s pretty obvious looking at
this prototype.
Key design features include the sloping roofline
which alters the shape of the side window line, and the rear end which is
completely different to the e-tron’s. While the face looks very similar
to its more conventional sibling, the rear adopts fastback styling which
results in a completely new tailgate design and slightly revised taillights.
This particular prototype also features grey cladding around the entire lower
end of the vehicle, for a more rugged appearance.
The Sportback version gets to
keep the side rearview cameras, at least in Europe. We don’t get to see what’s
inside, but the prototype is in right-hand-drive configuration. Expect the interior design to mirror that of the regular e-tron, though.
Something else the e-tron Sportback should have in
common with the e-tron SUV is the electric drivetrain. Expect two electric
motors that deliver a combined output of 355 HP, upgraded to
402 HP in the so-called “Boost Mode.” When the latter mode is
engaged, the Audi e-tron sprints from 0 to 96 km/h in 5.5 seconds so
we can expect the e-tron Sportback to at least as quick.
The driving range should also be similar at around 348 km. That’s not spectacular but at least the e-tron offers a 150-kW
fast charging system which “rewards” the crossover with approximately 87 km of range in ten minutes and 262 km in 30 minutes.
