The first official images of the 2020 Hyundai Verna
that debuted at the 2019 Chengdu Motor Show last month are out. Beijing-Hyundai
will launch the facelifted model (in China) on the 30th of this month.
The facelifted Hyundai Verna for the Chinese market
sports comprehensive changes on the outside for a bolder styling. It has a more
aggressive design with a large new radiator grille with thicker chrome slats
and longer and sharper headlamps. The front bumper too has been heavily
redesigned and now sports triangular housings and chrome garnishes. The front

The profile of the Hyundai Verna has remained the
same, save for the new design for the machined alloy wheels. At the rear, the
tail lamps have been made sleeker and are connected via a red stripe in the
same style as the latest D-segment Hyundais like the (Chinese-spec) Santa Fe
and the Sonata. The number plate recess now sits slightly lower, while the
reflectors on the side edges of the rear bumper are now vertical units. The
rear bumper sees the addition of premium silver garnish and faux air vents to lend
it a sporty appeal.
Step inside the cabin of the new Hyundai Verna and
the changes are not as drastic as how they are on the outside. The steering
wheel, as well as dashboard layout, are the same as before. However,
Beijing-Hyundai is offering a new, fully digital instrument console and a
floating type touchscreen infotainment system which is larger than before in
the new model. The specifications are yet to be revealed, but Chinese media
says that instead of a 6-speed AT option, there will be a CVT option for
customers not wanting the standard 6-speed MT.
India and other markets may get the 2020 Hyundai
Verna with a slightly different design. In India, the engine options in the
facelifted model will be all-new BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel
units. Expect the launch to take place in mid-2020.
