The second generation Volkswagen Tiguan will be
updated for the 2020MY, getting more standard features across the range. The added gear which, in the base
Tiguan S includes automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and rear
cross-traffic alert, will reportedly bump the price to US$ 25,965, according to
CarsDirect, up from the outgoing model’s MSRP of US$ 25,295.
As per Volkswagen’s listing, the current Tiguan SE
and SEL grades start from US$ 26,695 and US$ 31,795, without destination. From the
2020MY, though, they will carry a US$ 425 and US$ 475 premium, respectively. The
range-topping Tiguan SEL Premium R-line, which now costs US$ 38,895, is said to
become US$ 75 cheaper. VW is also expected to revise the bumper-to-bumper warranty ,
dropping it from 6 years/72,000 miles (115,873 km) to 4 years/50,000 miles
(80,467 km).
If the 2019MY sounds more appealing, then you should
hurry up and place a deposit, especially if you want to take advantage of the US$ 1,500 cash incentives. The outgoing Tiguan is already 3 years old, so naturally, the wheels
for its successor have started spinning. It’s been reported that the Germans
area already working on the third generation, with a significant update in
styling.
Likely based on an updated variant of the MQB
architecture, the next Tiguan should get some engine options coming from the
Golf Mk8, which could include two plug-in hybrids, making around 170 hp and 250
hp. The sportier Tiguan R is also expected to be in the pipeline, and could get
a 2.0-liter, turbo-four, producing up to 350 hp.
