Yamaha has unveiled the 2020 MT-03 naked roadster
with styling and mechanical upgrades. The 2020
Yamaha MT-03 gets an aggressive front fascia that features an updated headlight
setup. The full-LED headlight resembles the unit that’s seen on the latest
Yamaha MT-15. Thus, you would see LED position lamps along with a projector
headlamp. The 2020 model also benefits from LED blinkers instead of
conventional units on the model it replaces. The revised cockpit includes a
negative LCD display.
The fuel tank and the air scoops get an even
muscular design that looks more appealing than the model it replaces. A new
layout to the dual-tone paint on the tank further enhances the styling quotient
of the motorcycle.
The saddle has the same split-style, step-up design
for a sporty look. The side and rear panels have received some styling tweaks
for a refreshed look. The taillight, too, is new on the 2020 model. The
registration plate and the LED blinkers continue to occupy the space on the
stalk at the back. The MT-03 will be available in three colour options – Ice
Fluo, Icon Blue and Midnight Black. The motorcycle will be available with
optional accessories and MyRide smartphone application.
The new model is powered by a
321 cc parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine (still in Euro-IV guise)
that delivers 42 PS of peak power at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of maximum torque
at 9,000 rpm. Yamaha says that the motor features all-aluminium DiASil cylinders
to offer excellent heat dissipation properties. Anchoring department comprises
single discs on both wheels.
The Yamaha MT-03 retains diamond-type tubular steel
frame. The shock absorption department has undergone changes, and the bike now
features 37 mm inverted front forks instead of conventional units on its
predecessor. The addition of upside-down forks brings the feature list closer
to its rivals such as the KTM 390 Duke and the BMW G 310 R. The gold-coloured
outer tubes enhance the visuals of the motorcycle.
Yamaha has also brought the concept of the extended
swingarm from the YZF-R1 Supersport to the MT-03. The 2020 MT-03 uses a 573 mm
long asymmetrical swingarm that is claimed to reduce the variance in the bike's
angle with the road surface. Yamaha says that the setup gives a high level of
controllability during braking, cornering and acceleration. The rear monoshock
has an adjustable pre-load and damping setting.
The 2020 MT-03 will start reaching Yamaha
dealerships in select European markets in December 2019. The Indian launch
details are scarce right now.
