Genesis will soon roll out its first SUV, the GV80, which will go up against the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and their like. But the Korean luxury brand has two more SUVs in the pipeline, one of which is the GV70 compact model we saw undergoing testing on the Nürburgring earlier this month. While the GV80 is very important for the brand, the smaller GV70 will most likely become Genesis’ best-seller when it launches sometime in late 2020 – early 2021. That’s because it will play in the most popular segment for premium vehicles.

While the GV70 spy shots gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect, peeling the camouflage off would be much better and that’s exactly what the folks from Kolesa did. Starting off from the spy photos, they envisioned the 2021 Genesis GV70 without camo and we have to say we like what we see.

The GV70 will adopt unusual proportions for a crossover with a long hood, short front overhang, and a sloping roofline towards the rear that reminds a bit of the Kia ProCeed. The C-shaped headlights and taillights remind of the bigger GV80, as does the large grille. Actually, these elements are key in defining the Genesis family’s styling identity.

The Genesis GV70 will stand out thanks to the third lateral window which has an unusual shape for a crossover and gives the vehicle an original look. Equally striking are the vertical exhaust pipes which suggest some serious firepower. Since the GV70 is likely to use the same platform as the G70 sedan, we should expect the same engine lineup including a 252 HP 2.0-liter turbo-four and a 365 HP 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6. All-wheel drive will likely be standard, at least for the six-cylinder model.
