Audi has released more details of the C8 Audi A6 55 TFSI e quattro in conjunction with the start of presales of the plug-in hybrid model in Germany, where it carries a base price of 68,850 euros. The variant was first showcased at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and shares its powertrain with the A7 Sportback and Q5.

The A6 PHEV features a 2.0 litre four-cylinder TFSI engine (252 PS/370 Nm) and a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission, the latter sporting an integrated electric motor with (143 PS/350 Nm) for a total system output of 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque.

Performance-wise, the sedan will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, and will hit a top speed of 250 km/h. When running in EV mode, the top speed is lowered to 135 km/h, and you get a WLTP-certified range of 53 km thanks to the 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery positioned in the vehicle rear. The battery can be recharged using a Type 2 cable, and when plugged into a 7.4 kW charging station, takes about 2.5 hours to get a full charge.

Drivers will also get three driving modes to choose from, starting with Hybrid, where the car employs a predictive operating strategy for the best efficiency and the maximum possible amount of electric driving. There’s also EV mode for all-electric driving, while Hold allows the conservation of electrical energy for use at a later time, like when entering a city area.

The variant also comes with the S line exterior and black styling packages as standard, which add on to Matrix LED headlamps, sport seats, four-zone automatic air conditioning, the Audi virtual cockpit, sport suspension, 19-inch wheels and red brake calipers.
