General Motors’
China brand Baojun has launched the RS-3 subcompact crossover in their home
market. The RS-3 is the fourth model in Baojun’s new product portfolio
introduced this year, joining the RS-5 SUV, RM-5 MPV, and RC-6 sedan. Based on
the latest R architecture developed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture,
the RS-3 also adopts Baojun’s new “interstellar geometry” design language.
The crossover features Baojun’s new corporate grille
and logo, bulged front fenders and rear haunches, an aggressive front end
featuring split headlights, rugged black plastic cladding, and a “floating”
roof.
At the rear, the split taillights echo the design of
the headlights and are somewhat similar to those of the new RM-5 minivan.
Inside, the Baojun RS-3 features a modern dashboard with a “floating” center
display for the infotainment system and a digital instrument panel. Highlights
also include the sporty steering wheel, sports seats, and piano-like keys on
the center console.
The Baojun RS-3 is 4,305-mm long,
1,748-mm wide, 1,597-mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,550
millimeters, providing “a spacious interior for passengers and their
belongings,” according to the release.
The new crossover is big on tech too, packing the
latest version of Baojun’s connectivity system which integrates mobile
connectivity and in-vehicle features, an advanced voice recognition system, and
over-the-air upgrades. Additionally, the RS-3 features a Bosch-supplied Level 2
advanced adaptive cruise control system that can be activated at speeds of up
to 130 km/h.
Power comes from a 105 PS 1.5-liter
naturally aspirated gasoline engine mated to either a CVT or a six-speed manual
transmission. The Baojun RS-3 is available in four variants in China, with
prices ranging between RMB 71,800 and RMB 89,800 (US$ 10,160-US$ 12,710).
