Sweden’s tiny Uniti One electric vehicle has been
revealed in production guise and first deliveries to customers in the UK and
Sweden will commence in mid-2020.
The electric vehicle, crowdfunded last year and
previewed with an eye-catching concept, will go on sale in the UK for £ 15,100
(US$ 19,043) after the £ 3,500 (US$ 4,414) government subsidy.
Two variants are available. The base model is fitted
with a small 12 kWh battery that’s good for 150 km of range from a
single charge, while a larger 24 kWh battery is available and extends the range
to 300 km. That’s seriously impressive for a battery pack of this
size and there’s no doubt that the One’s total weight of just 600 kg plays a significant role in the equation.
Uniti has designed the One to support 50 kW charging
that can add 100 km of range in 10 minutes, while getting from 20
per cent 80 per cent in the 24 kWh model takes 17 minutes through a 50 kW
charger. While vehicles like the Uniti One are not about straight-line
performance, it can accelerate to 100 km/h in a respectable 9.9
seconds and hit a top speed of 120 km/h, which is good enough for most
urban driving scenarios.
The exterior design of the production model is
largely the same as the concept. In contrast, the cabin has been overhauled;
while it retains the three-seat layout, with two passengers behind the driver,
the study’s weird aircraft controls have been replaced by a
traditionally-shaped steering wheel. The driver gets a digital instrument
cluster right in front of him, a touchscreen infotainment screen to the right
and a navigation screen to the left.
Uniti will sell the One with MobilEye’s 6 collision
avoidance system as an option, alongside a premium audio system with
six-speakers and an amplifier, while mood lighting comes as standard.
