Factory Five will
preview its new front-engined supercar at SEMA next month before the car is
unveiled in February 2020. Dubbed Project Romulan, the car is based on a
stretched and widened version of the chassis underpinning Factory Five’s Shelby
Daytona Coupe kit car. However, it’s not the chassis that promises to be
special. It’s the engine.
Powering the
supercar is an LS3-based engine from Australian company Race Cast that
displaces 9.5-liters and has twelve-cylinders. It pumps out no less than 755 hp
and 940 Nm. That puts the supercar up there with the likes of the
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta as having one of the most powerful
naturally-aspirated V12 engines on the market.
Factory Five has
equipped the supercar with a set of adjustable Koni shocks and Wilwood brakes
at all four corners. It promises to be an absolute animal. The car will be
shown at SEMA simple as a rolling chassis with the powertrain in place. The
finished car will be adorned with a distinctive body made exclusively from
carbon fiber and as mentioned, premiere early next year.
The company intends
on commencing production in late 2020. It has yet to be revealed how many units
will be built nor how much each one will cost. However, with such a special V12
engine, don’t expect them to be cheap. Factory Five’s GTM supercar, which many
people may be familiar with, has been in production for more than a decade. It
features a mid-mounted V8 engine compared to the front-mounted V12 of Project
Romulan.
