Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a premium
variant of the Wagon R the same way as
the Ertiga-derived XL6. The premium variant of the Wagon R has been spotted a
few times earlier this month. using details from the spy shots, IAB's digital
artist Shoeb Kalania has produced a rendering which gives us a hint about the
exterior design of the upcoming derivative.
Just like the new XL6, the premium variant of the
Wagon R will be differentiated from the donor vehicle with more stylish
exteriors and advanced equipment. It is also said to be a NEXA product. In
terms of exterior looks, the most prominent change will be the use of split
headlamps with high-set bonnet mounted LED DRLs and lower-set main lights.
Other bits complementing its new design will include uniquely designed upper
grille, lower grille, front bumper and repositioned fog lamps. As seen in the
image (above) it will also get silver touch-ups on the lower side of the front
bumper and the side body baseline. Other prominent design updates will be seen
in terms of 15-inch black alloy wheels (borrowed from Ignis) and LED tail lamps
and high-mounted stop lamp.
The premium variant of the latest Maruti Wagon R
will also be made available in the NEXA Blue paint scheme which is exclusive to
all the models sold via NEXA dealerships. On the other hand, its cabin is
likely to remain unchanged but could sport a unique trim and upholstery.
Furthermore, one could also expect it to be equipped with additional comfort
and convenience features.
In terms of mechanicals, the premium variant of the
Wagon R is most likely to use the same 1.0- and 1.2L petrol engine options.
Speaking of which, the BS-IV K10B three-cylinder engine delivers 68 PS of max power at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm, while the
BS-VI K12M four-cylinder engine is rated to deliver 83 PS of maximum
power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. 5-speed manual and a
5-speed automated manual will likely be the transmission choices.
