A number of Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and GLE 63 Coupe prototypes have been spied during testing at Germany’s Nurburgring track. The new GLE was presented to the world towards the end of 2018 and benefits from new styling, features and tech.

Mercedes-AMG has been working on the GLE 63 model for quite some time, and in this video, it can be seen testing with skin-tight camouflage across the front and rear bumpers. It’s a similar story with the GLE 63 Coupe variant that will sit at the top of the range of the more rakish GLE variant that was unveiled in the lead-up to this month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Both the GLE 63 and GLE 63 Coupe will use the car manufacturer’s flagship 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, producing 563 HP and 750 Nm in base specification and 603 HP and 850 Nm in the GLE 63 S models.

All of the prototypes featured in this video feature AMG’s traditional square quad tailpipes and certainly sound the part. The flared arches and wide wheels and tires ensure the duo stand out from lesser variants – you know, just in case you miss the engine’s roar.

It is reported that both models will be built at the firm’s plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and we expect to see them unveiled in early 2020. The most performance-oriented GLE variant currently on the market is the GLE 53. This model features a mild-hybrid powertrain that combines a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an EQ Boost starter-alternator to produce 429 HP and 521 Nm of torque. Not bad, but the 63 is easily going to outgun it.
