Porsche is extending its electric sports saloon’s
range with the addition of the new Taycan 4S, which slots below the Turbo and
Turbo S. The new Taycan 4S will offer up to 522 HP in overboost, but
customers will be given the option of a Performance Battery Plus package that
raises the output during overboost to 563 HP. This makes it 100 HP
less powerful than its 671 HP Turbo sibling and 187 HP shy of the range-topping
Turbo S that can go up to 750 HP.
As standard, the new Taycan 4S is fitted with a 79.2
kWh battery pack, which provides a 405 km driving range. If,
however, you opt for the aforementioned Performance Battery Plus package,
you’ll get a bigger 93.4 kWh unit that lifts the driving range to up to 462 km, according to the WLTP testing cycle.
Maximum charging capacity is 225kW with the standard
battery and 270kW for the Performance Battery Plus version. Both models hit 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds flat, while top speed is limited to 250
km/h.
The new Porsche Taycan 4S features the same setup
with its more powerful siblings, meaning two electric motors, one on each axle,
for all-wheel drive and a two-speed transmission mounted on the rear.
On the outside, the Taycan 4S is distinguished from
the Turbo and Turbo S by the aero-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels and red brake
calipers, as well as having the front apron, side sills and rear diffused
finished in black.
The cabin remains largely the same, with highlights
including the free-standing curved digital instrument cluster, the central
10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display. Partial
leather upholstery is offered as standard, as well as front comfort seats with
eight-way electric adjustment.
Prices for the new Porsche Taycan 4S start from US$ 103,800 in the US (US$ 110,380 for the Performance Battery Plus version), £ 83,367
in the UK and 105,607 euros in its home market in Germany. Order books are now
open, with deliveries expected to commence in January in Europe and next spring
in the States.
