The Dubai police force is known around the world for
having some of the world’s fastest, most expensive and, let’s be real here,
tourist attraction-worthy performance cars in its fleet. As it turns out, the
city’s ambulance service also has some impressive rides and recently picked up
two more.
Social media postings from the Dubai ambulance
service reveal that it now owns a Nissan GT-R and a C7 Chevrolet Corvette. Not
just any Corvette either but the potent Grand Sport model. You know, just in
case you need to get to a hospital really quickly.
Now, you may be wondering how these two-door sports
cars can double as ambulances? Well, they can’t. Consequently, they will be
used predominantly for patrols in tourist areas and turn up at various sporting
event making them more of a promotional tool than anything else.
The Nissan GT-R and Corvette Z06 will serve some
practical purpose. Both are equipped with CPR equipment and oxygen cylinders as
well as road traffic-specific resuscitation equipment if they’re ever called to
an emergency. Dubai’s ambulance service says response times are cut in half
using the vehicles. Other performance-focused cars have been used by the service in the
past, including a pair of Ford Mustangs, a Dodge Challenger, and a Lotus Evora.
Dubai’s police fleet is routinely adding and
retiring exotics from its fleet. At one stage, it had an Aston Martin One-77,
Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari FF, Nissan GT-R,
McLaren 12C, Lamborghini Aventador, BMW M6 Gran Coupe, Brabus G63 AMG, Audi R8
V10, a Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG, and others.
