Skoda has offered a sneak peek into the design of a
new crossover coupe that will debut on November 4 in Tainjin. Aimed exclusively at the Chinese
car market, it’s called the Kamiq GT and was previewed by the Vision GT Concept
that premiered at the 2019 Shenzhen International Auto Show in June.
Visually, few things have changed compared to the
study, at least at first glance. The crossover sports different front and rear
bumpers, less pronounced plastic cladding on the lower parts and a more
discreet tailgate-mounted wing, in addition to the oversized wheels with a new
pattern.
We have yet to catch a glimpse of the interior, but
Skoda said that it “offers a blend of rugged SUV looks and sporty dynamics”.
The crossover features front sports seats and a horizontal decorative element
that extends across the entire width and customers will be able to personalize
the cabin to some extent.
Based on the China-spec Kamiq rather than the
European one, which may have the same name but is a different model, the Kamiq
GT will become the fifth high-riding vehicle launched by Skoda in the People’s
Republic. Their single most important car market currently counts the
subcompact Kamiq, compact Karoq and mid-size Kodiaq, as well as the Kodiaq GT,
a coupe version of the latter.
The Kodiaq GT will be available with two 2.0-liter
turbocharged petrol engines, producing 186 and 220 PS. The more powerful version gets an all-wheel drive system, whereas the
lesser model is front-wheel drive only.
