Hyundai has released the first official photos of the facelifted Grandeur as pre-sales have begun in South Korea ahead of its launch later this month.

As far as facelifts go, this one is very substantial, covering everything from exterior and interior design upgrades, new powertrains, and even different dimensions. While Hyundai has retired the Grandeur from the U.S., where it used to be sold as the Azera, the flagship sedan continues in South Korea and gains a surprising amount of updates considering that we’re talking about a car launched in 2016.

Hyundai has not been very generous with the photos, but we can see clearly that the 2020 Grandeur features a completely new face with the grille and headlights forming a single structure. First seen on Hyundai’s Le Fil Rouge concept, the front design concept now makes its debut on a production model. At the rear, the facelifted Grandeur features less radical changes, although the taillamps are also new and stretch across the entire width of the car.

The new Grandeur has been penned to follow Hyundai’s new “Sensuous Sportiness” design language which we’ve already seen on the new Sonata. Owing to the styling changes, the executive sedan is now 60 mm longer at 4,990 mm and 10 mm wider. Even the wheelbase has grown by 40 mm, resulting in a roomier cabin – particularly for back seat passengers.

Speaking of the interior, it looks much more luxurious than before and more elegant thanks to the dashboard’s elongated horizontal design featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch center display that form a continuous unit. The 2020 Grandeur also gains a new touch-controlled air conditioning unit (a first for Hyundai).

Other significant changes include the redesigned steering wheel and shift lever, with the latter going away completely replaced by center console buttons. Hyundai says the cabin is now quieter as well thanks to further insulation, thicker rear glass, and a strengthened lower body. Passengers will also breathe a cleaner air as the Grandeur packs a fine dust sensor and a micro air filter.

Customers will be able to choose from four engines including two new ones: a 294 PS 3.3-liter V6 and a 304 PS 2.5-liter SmartStream four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline unit. The latter optimizes fuel injection by selecting either MPI (indirect injection) or GDi (direct injection), depending on speed and rpm.

The other two powertrains available are an improved 2.4-liter hybrid and a 3.0-liter LPi running on LPG. The 2020 Hyundai Grandeur is available with an array of safety assist features including Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse (PCA-R), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Junction Turning (FCA-JT), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Safe Exit Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), and more.

Prices in Korea start from 32.94 million won (US$ 28,490).
