Mopar and Dodge
revealed the new, fourth-generation Challenger Drag Pak as a turnkey package
for for grassroots drag racers that compete in in events sanctioned by the
National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and National Muscle Car Association (NMCA). Unlike the third-generation model, the 2020 Mopar
Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is available only with a supercharged 354 ci
(5.8-liter) Hemi V8 engine paired to a T400 three-speed transmission with a
Kwik-Shift manual shifter.
Other powertrain features of the drag strip-only
Challenger include a lightweight driveshaft, front and rear racing brakes,
Racetech seats, Racepak Smartwire fully programmable power distribution center
and a new, exclusive Drag Pak lightweight wheel and tire package.
The 2020 Challenger Drag Pak starts life with a
standard-width Dodge Challenger Body-in-White chassis, which is then fitted
with an SFI-specification welded rollcage, certified for quarter-mile runs as
fast as 7.50 seconds.
New features for the 2020 drag car also include a
Strange rear axle assembly with adjustable coilover shocks and a four-link
suspension with wishbone and an anti-roll bar. The wheelie bars and the
parachute mount are integrated into the chassis as standard. The front end uses specific
Bilstein double-adjustable struts, as well as a unique engine cross member that
lowers the center of gravity and improves weight distribution.
The design of the new 2020 Challenger Drag Pak
mimics that of the road-going Hellcat, utilizing its intake and heat extractors
on the hood and similar front and rear fascias. In addition, the car wears a
new livery that pays tribute to the original muscle car era of the 1970s, with
a red, white and blue color scheme. The graphics package is completed with a
blue Mopar logo and red “dragpak” badging on the quarter panels above the rear
wheels.
Production of the new 2020 Mopar Dodge Challenger
Drag Pak will be limited to just 50 examples, with ordering and pricing details
to be announced on a later date.
