The overlanding segment is well represented at this
year’s SEMA Show and one of the most visible exhibits is the Lance Camper
“Altimeter” – and not just because of its size.
Consisting of a 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty truck and
a Lance Camper 855S Truck Camper attached on top of it, the Altimeter project
is described as a four-season adventure vehicle designed for adventure at any
altitude. That’s because it comes with “all of the modifications needed for
serious off-road and overland travel.”
It even comes with its own matching Yamaha YXZ
1000RSS side-by-side. The Lance Camper 855S offers room for four and a dinette
slide out, all in the the short bed of the Super Duty. Lance Camper chose the F-350
Super Duty as a platform for this project due to its powerful 6.7-liter
Powerstroke V8 diesel engine and four-wheel drive capabilities. To upgrade the
rig for off-road exploration, an ICON Vehicle Dynamics Stage 5 suspension
system was added, providing 2.5-inch lift.
Hellwig Products supplied front and rear sway bars
to allow better control the weight of the truck camper while air springs were
added to bring the ride height back to level when towing the Yamaha YXZ
1000RSS.
Both the truck and the side-by-side feature Raceline
Defender Wheels shod in Maxxis RAZR MT tires. Other modifications include a
Warn Ascent front bumper, Zeon 12S Platinum winch, Rotopax water and fuel
storage, auxiliary LED lighting on the front bumper and under the hood from KC
Hilites, and more.
Rounding off the package are three 100Ah Deep Cycle
batteries, a DryRack by Malo’o for swimsuits/wetsuits, a rechargeable
flashlight by Maglight, as well as UTV and camper speakers plus charging
accessories.
