Lynk & Co has gone to WeChat to release the first images and specifications of a new hybrid version of its 01 SUV. Called simply the 01 HEV, the car takes most of the mechanicals of the plug-in hybrid model (which in turn is related to the Volvo XC40 T5 Twin Engine) and distils them into a simpler – and presumably cheaper – package.
Whereas regular petrol models are powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the HEV makes use of the smaller 1.5 litre three-pot, which in the PHEV makes 180 PS and 260 Nm of torque. A smaller, less powerful electric motor linked to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission means that the total system output is 197 PS and 355 Nm, rather than PHEV’s 262 PS total.
That’s still enough for it to get from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, while combined fuel consumption is rated at 4.8 litres per 100 km. The smaller battery of unspecified capacity continues to be located along the spine of the car, ensuring that passenger and boot space are unaffected. The car also comes in Eco, Comfort and Sport driving modes, adapting the powertrain characteristics to suit.
The hybrid powertrain is the third configuration of the 1.5 litre turbo three-cylinder jointly developed by parent companies Geely and Volvo, after the petrol and plug-in hybrid versions.
