When Mitsubishi Motors
Malaysia (MMM) launched the facelifted Triton range early this year, the
workhorse Triton Quest was not included. Now, MMM is ready, and the workhorse
Triton Quest is available in Malaysia with the Dynamic Shield face and revised
specs.
Priced at RM 79,890 on
the road without insurance, the Triton Quest “comes with a stylish design with
a ‘sedan’ outlook” according to MMM, and it’s the most affordable pick-up truck
in the market. The factory warranty is five years or 100,000 km, whichever
comes first.
The Triton Quest is of
course not powered by the 2.4 litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine that’s now
standard across the Triton range. Instead, under the hood lies a 2.5 litre
commonrail turbodiesel with 110 PS and 200 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Not a VGT
motor, this is basic, as is expected for the workhorse category. Also retained
are the five-speed manual gearbox and 4×2 rear-wheel-drive. MMM also highlights
the best in class turning radius of 5.7 metres (5.9m for 4WD Tritons).
As before, the Triton
Quest is a low rider truck. The bed, which is easier to access due to the low
load lip, is claimed to be the largest in the low rider category. Inclusive of
passengers, total load capacity is 970 kg.
Listed in the spec
sheet is the Electronic Time and Alarm Control System (ETACS), which comes with
a lane change turn signals, power window timer, headlamp auto off, open door
alarm, auto door relock system, auto speed adjustable wipers and a 15-second
interior light delay after switching off the car.
Also, there’s a
multi-info display with readouts for range, average fuel consumption and
service reminders. The head unit is a 2-DIN non-touchscreen unit with
Bluetooth. Basic stuff perhaps, but the Triton Quest is a basic workhorse. As
for safety kit, there’s dual airbags, and ABS with EBD. Reverse sensors, too.
Choose from any exterior colour, as long as it’s pearl white.
At the Quest launch,
MMM also announced a couple of product enhancements for the rest of the Triton
range. The range topping Triton Adventure X now gets an all round monitor for
bird’s eye view parking, a dashcam, side body stickers, and solar/security
tint. One rung down is the Triton AT Premium, which now gets the dashcam,
leather seats and a seven-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple Carplay and
Android Auto.
