For a car that’s clearly not everyone’s cup of tea,
the BMW X6 sure is popular. In fact, it’s such a good moneymaker for the
Bavarian brand that they introduced the third generation, 12 years after the
first one went into production.
Retaining the arched roofline that made it famous,
the 2020 X6 has a big grille, slim headlights, aggressive creases, LED
taillamps and large wheels, up to 22-inch in diameter, depending on the
version. The overall footprint has gone up as well, improving rear legroom and
boot capacity.
Inside, it mimics the look of the latest X5, on
which it is based, with a few minor exceptions, and gets lots of premium
finishes, including the Vernasca leather sport seats and Sensated-wrapped
dashboard. The usual technology features such as the 12.3-inch infotainment
system and a digital instrument cluster of the same size are also present,
alongside a generous assortment of options, like the panoramic glass roof,
four-zone climate control, head-up display, premium sound system and many
others.
You’ll be able to purchase the new X6 in the U.S.
starting next month, from US$ 64,300 for the 335 HP sDrive40i and US$ 85,650 for the
523 HP M50i, excluding the US$ 995 destination charge. The xDrive40i is also
available, while Europeans get two diesels, the 261 HP xDrive30d and 395 HP
M50d.
