Porsche has finally
launched the new 718 Cayman T and 718 Boxster T in the United States, with
pricing kicking off at US$ 66,400 and US$ 68,500 respectively – not including the US$ 1,350 destination charge. This makes the new 718 Cayman T and Boxster T models US$ 9,500 more expensive than the base models, and US$ 14,300 more affordable than the GTS versions. The range-topping Cayman
GT4 starts at US$ 99,200 and the 718 Spyder at US$ 96,300.
Powering the two T
models is the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, rated at 296
hp and 380 Nm of torque. The flat-four engine,
which carries over from the standard Cayman and Boxster, works together either
with the standard six-speed manual gearbox or the optional PDK. When fitted
with the latter, 0-96 km/h takes 4.5 seconds and top speed is 274 km/h.
Both the Cayman T
and Boxster T come with PASM sport suspension as standard. This is an option on
the 718 S and GTS models, featuring shorter springs that lower the ride height
by 20 mm compared to the standard Boxster and Cayman as well as
re-tuned adaptive dampers. Complementing the torque vectoring system is a
mechanical limited slip differential.
You won’t be able to
tell the new T models apart from the regular ones unless you pay attention to
the special lettering applied to the sides, Agate Grey mirror covers, 20-inch
911 Carrera S wheels, painted in Titanium Grey, and high-gloss black exhaust
tips.
Replacing the traditional
door handles inside are the black loops, while the rest of the cabin features
include a sports steering wheel and seats, ‘718’ embroidery in the headrests
and high-gloss black trim on the dashboard and center console. You could also
choose the optional bucket seats or the 18-way adaptive sport seats, as well as
the Interior Package that adds contrast stitching in several hues, with
matching seatbelts, 718 lettering in the headrests and door opening loops.
