Seat will take its urban mobility solutions to the
next level by presenting the eScooter Concept at the Barcelona Smart City Expo
World Congress in Spain, on November 19. Developed to get potential
customers acquainted to these kinds of products, it will be followed by a
production motorcycle, equipped with a battery-electric powertrain said to be
equivalent to a 125 cc engine. It will launch in 2020 and will be made in
partnership with Barcelona-based electric motorcycle maker Silence.
Speaking about the company’s new approach to urban
mobility and zero-emission driving, Seat’s President, Luca de Meo, said: “The
constant growth of large cities makes achieving efficient mobility one of the
main challenges to overcome. Today, we are taking a further step in our urban
micromobility strategy by confirming the launch of the first eScooter in the
history of the brand.”
The Spanish company’s previous venture into the
world of two wheels is the eXS KickScooter, which debuted last year. Designed
by Seat and equipped with technology from the Segway ES2 electric scooter, it
has a top speed of 25 km/h and can travel for 45 km on a
single charge, while its range can increase by adding an optional battery. The
eXS is already on sale in certain European countries and starts at € 599 (US$ 665).
From 2021, Seat will rival the Renault
Twizy with a similar vehicle that was previewed by the Minimo Concept at the
Mobile World Congress, earlier this year. It features a tandem-seating layout,
asymmetrical doors and a battery that can be swapped quickly, giving it a
driving range of more than 100 km.
