Shelby American has
two big debuts at this week’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas and one of them is a
souped-up version of the GT500 Mustang.
Apparently, the
“stock” car’s 760 HP and 847 Nm of torque produced by the 5.2-liter
supercharged V8 are not enough for Shelby. Taking its name from a 1960s drag
racing version of the Shelby Cobra, the GT500 Dragon Snake packs more than 800
horsepower – the exact figure wasn’t disclosed.
The seven-speed dual-clutch
automatic transmission has been retuned as well, with the muscle car also
getting a revised suspension “for maximum grip and straight line acceleration.”
Shelby also says the Dragon Snake is lighter than the stock model thanks to
specialty equipment and exotic materials such as the lightweight glasswork.
You can tell it’s a
tuned GT500 from the carbon fiber hood with Shelby hood pins, drag style carbon
fiber spoiler, one-piece forged aluminum wheels with performance tires, as well
as striping and badging. A wide body option is also considered. The interior
receives a custom Shelby leather treatment and a serialized numbered dash
plaque.
Shelby Super Snake
F-150
The second Shelby
concept on display at SEMA Show is the Super Snake Sport truck packing a 755 HP
supercharged V8, lowered coil over suspension system, a mean aero kit, and
other modifications. Those include a sleek set of 22-inch wheels shod with
street performance tires, an uprated braking system and a “throbbing exhaust
note.”
It’s worth noting
that this custom concept is based on the two-door Ford F-150 and Shelby says
that’s paying tribute to the spirit of the great 1960s muscle cars. According
to the tuner, the goal was to build the “king of the road” F-150 and a
“nightmare” for any other performance truck currently in production.
Obviously, we
should expect to see both these “concepts” going into production rather sooner
than later.
